Hundreds of supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (BJP) on Monday clashed with Delhi Police personnel and Reserved Police Force (RPF) near Parliament and at Jantar Mantar. While marching towards Parliament, they breached police barricades and reached near the Sansad Bhawan. The police then resorted to a lathicharge to control the crowd. Earlier, thousands of CJP supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar, just a few kilometer away from Parliament where Monsoon Session has commenced today.
Sachin Sharma, DCP (New Delhi), issued a firm appeal to the public: "I would like to urge everyone to stay within the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar and not move to any other area. I remind everyone that Section 163 of the BNSS is currently in force. We appeal to all to maintain peace and exercise patience."

Metro Station Closures: Security has been further tightened following the closure of the exit gates at Patel Chowk Metro Station. Delhi Police is strictly prohibiting passengers from exiting at this location to manage the influx of demonstrators.
Pedestrian March: Large numbers of protestors are reported to be disembarking at the Central Secretariat and Krishi Bhawan metro stations and marching on foot toward the Jantar Mantar area.
Police Stance on March: Despite the large assembly, police sources have explicitly stated that no unauthorized protest march toward Parliament will be permitted.
Demarcated Limits: Authorities have set a strict perimeter for the protestors, stating that they will not be allowed to proceed beyond the Kerala Bhawan vicinity.
Constant Monitoring: The Delhi Police remains on high alert and is conducting continuous surveillance across the New Delhi district to monitor the evolving situation.

A motorcyclist died while the pillion rider escaped with minor injuries after a high-speed KTM Duke crashed into a divider in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning. The preliminary investigation suggests that the rider was drunk and lost control of his sports bike.
The accident occurred on the intervening night of June 15 and 16, around 2:15 am when the motorcycle, bearing registration number 'TS08KB6055', was travelling from the TSPA side towards Kali Mandir.
According to the Narsingi Traffic Police of Cyberabad, the rider was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and speeding when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a small advertisement board installed on the road median.
"The rider was travelling at a very high speed. Preliminary inquiry suggests he was in an inebriated condition and could not negotiate the stretch, resulting in the collision," the Traffic Police said.
The impact was so severe that the rider died on the spot. The pillion rider escaped with minor injuries and was shifted to Shadan Hospital for treatment.
The victim's body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination, while a case has been registered for investigation.
The accident was caught on a mobile camera held by the two men who were filming their ride.
The crash did not involve any other vehicle, police clarified.
Officials said the exact speed of the motorcycle would be determined through technical investigation and available electronic evidence. However, the nature of the impact indicated reckless speeding.
The stretch near Kali Mandir and the TSPA junction has witnessed several serious crashes in recent years, with police repeatedly cautioning motorists against overspeeding especially during late-night and early-morning hours.
Police urged motorists to avoid drunk driving and adhere to speed limits, warning that excessive speed significantly reduces reaction time and increases the likelihood of deadly crashes. Source:- NDTV 24x7

PATNA: Educator Faisal Khan, better known as Khan Sir, received a major legal reprieve after a Patna district court stayed his arrest in a case alleging that he directed security guards to open fire during a violent clash outside his coaching institute earlier this month.
The development came a day after the Bihar fire service issued a notice to Khan Sir over alleged fire safety violations at his coaching institute, adding another layer to the controversy surrounding the popular educator.
Khan Sir's lawyer, Arvind Kumar Mahuar, moved the court seeking anticipatory bail after police named him in an FIR related to a violent clash and alleged firing outside the Khan Global Studies coaching centre in Patna's Kadamkuan area on the night of June 2.
The court is expected to hear the anticipatory bail matter while the interim protection from arrest remains in place.
Speaking outside the court, Mahuar said all relevant facts had been presented before the judge and maintained that his client had no direct involvement in the incident.
The case stems from a violent confrontation that police say was linked to a rivalry between Khan Global Studies and another coaching institute. According to the complaint, a group allegedly entered the premises, vandalised property, tore down banners and posters, assaulted security personnel and triggered panic by allegedly opening fire.
Following a complaint filed by Khan Global Studies, police arrested the director of a rival coaching institute along with several associates.
However, the investigation took a dramatic turn after a video surfaced purportedly showing two security guards firing shots into the air during the chaos. The guards were subsequently arrested, and during questioning allegedly claimed they had acted on Khan Sir's instructions. Based on their statements, police registered an FIR against Khan Sir and two others.
The case filed at Kadamkuan police station includes charges under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as provisions of the Arms Act. Police have seized the weapons allegedly used in the incident and sent them for forensic examination.
Mahuar dismissed the allegations, arguing that the FIR was aimed at tarnishing Khan Sir's reputation. He contended that the guards may have acted in self-defence amid the attack on the institute and that there was no evidence linking the educator to any firing.
The controversy has also triggered public reactions. Supporters and students of the rival coaching institute director, who remains under arrest, staged candlelight vigils in Patna on Monday, demanding his release and alleging that the case against him was fabricated.

Big relief for 'Khan Sir': Patna court stays arrest in coaching centre firing case

At least 30 Indians were arrested by US Border Patrol agents for living in the country illegally. According to a US Customs and Border Protection release from Monday, the Indians were part of 52 people agents from Arizona's Yuma Sector arrested from May 11-15, and are all set to be deported.
A total of 52 arrests were made, of whom 36 drove semi-trucks. Of these, 30 were Indians, and three did not possess any driver’s license.
“Thirty of the individuals were from India, while the remaining six were from Mexico, El Salvador, and Russia,” the release read. “All individuals were processed in accordance with federal law and will be deported,” it added.
The release did not reveal the identity of the 30 Indians, or others arrested under the operation.
What is Operation Checkmate? The 52 arrests were made under ‘Operation Checkmate’, which according to the US Customs deals with detection and arrest of commercial motor vehicle operators living illegally in the country.
“Operation Checkmate reflects our commitment to safeguarding communities and roads from unlawfully present drivers who pose significant risks to public safety,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Yuma Sector Dustin W Caudle.
“My agents are on patrol every day to ensure we stop these individuals and prevent more deadly crashes from occurring on the road across the United States.”
When Indian trucker killed 3 in crash The arrest and planned deportation of the 30 Indian semi-truck drivers in the US comes months after 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, another semi-truck driver living illegally in the US, killed three people in California while driving under the influence.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Singh had entered the US illegally through the Mexico border back in 2022. He was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer when he crashed it into an SUV and several other vehicles back in October 2025.
Before Jashanpreet Singh, another Indian truck driver, 28-year-old Harjinder Singh found himself at the centre of an accident in Florida in August 2025, that killed three people. He allegedly made a wrong U-turn, which made a minivan behind him crash, killing its driver and two passengers.
These cases had sparked demands for stricter rules for non-citizens in the US to obtain commercial drivers licenses.
Months later, US President Donald Trump announced the ‘Dalilah Law' to halt the issuance of commercial driver licenses to “illegal aliens.” As he announced the law, he referenced the case of five-year-old Dalilah from Bakersfield who was injured after a multi-car pileup was caused by Partap Singh—an illegal immigrant from India.

Fuel prices across India held were hiked by Rs 3 per litre across various cities on May 15, as global crude markets remain on edge amid tensions in West Asia and disruptions to key shipping routes. This now ends a period of relative stability that had kept retail fuel prices largely insulated from global volatility,
In Delhi, petrol moved from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per litre. Diesel rose from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67. Across other metros, the increases ranged between Rs 2.83 and Rs 3.29 per litre, with petrol now priced at Rs 108.74 in Kolkata, Rs 106.68 in Mumbai and Rs 103.67 in Chennai.
Diesel, too, climbed sharply. Kolkata now stands at Rs 95.13 per litre, Mumbai at Rs 93.14 and Chennai at Rs 95.25.

The revision did not catch everyone off guard. Even before the official announcement, reports of a possible steep hike had already sent consumers rushing to petrol stations across the country. Long queues formed at outlets, and "No Fuel" boards went up at several pumps as stations struggled to keep up with the sudden surge in demand. Many consumers opted for full-tank refills, fearing prices could climb further, with speculation circulating that rates might rise by anywhere between Rs 5 and Rs 20 per litre from May 15.
What drives petrol and diesel prices in India?
A combination of global, economic, and domestic factors shapes fuel prices at the pump. At the heart of it is the international price of crude oil, the base raw material for both petrol and diesel, which has the single biggest bearing on what consumers ultimately pay.
The rupee-dollar exchange rate is another key variable, given that India relies heavily on imported crude. When the rupee weakens against the dollar, the cost of procuring crude rises, which can feed directly into higher retail fuel prices.
Why do prices differ across different cities?
On top of that, taxes levied by both the central and state governments make up a substantial portion of the final price, which is why petrol and diesel rates differ across states. Transportation costs and prevailing demand-supply conditions also factor into the retail price consumers see at the pump.

NEET UG 2026 Exam Cancelled: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday announced the cancellation of NEET UG 2026, conducted on May 3, after investigations found that several questions similar to those in the actual exam paper had been circulated before the test.
In its official statement, the NTA said the decision was taken with the approval of the Government of India after inputs received in coordination with central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities established that the examination process "could not be allowed to stand." The exam will now be re-conducted on revised dates, which will be notified later.
The agency clarified that candidates will not be required to re-register or pay any additional fee. All applications, candidature details, and exam centre preferences from the May 2026 cycle will remain valid. The re-conduct schedule and admit card updates will be issued through official channels.
The matter has now been formally referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (Central Bureau of Investigation), which will conduct a comprehensive probe. The NTA said it will extend full cooperation and share all relevant records and materials. Until now, the case was being jointly examined by multiple agencies, including the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (Rajasthan Special Operations Group) and other law enforcement units.
First complete cancellation since 2019 takeover This is the first time since NTA took over NEET UG conduct in 2019 that the medical entrance examination has been completely scrapped. In 2024, the exam was partially re-conducted for over 1,563 candidates following discrepancies in marks, triggering scrutiny of the agency's functioning.
The latest development has further intensified questions over exam security and the credibility of the testing system.
Arrests so far and key accused According to officials, Rajasthan SOG has arrested at least 15 people in connection with the alleged paper leak. Those arrested include Manish Yadav and Rakesh Mandwaria, with Mandwaria suspected of links to a consultancy centre in Sikar.
Separately, the Nashik Crime Branch (Nashik Crime Branch) arrested Shubham Khairnar, a BAMS student, as part of its parallel investigation.
All arrested individuals have been handed over to the CBI following the central agency's takeover of the probe.
Timeline of the Alleged Paper Leak The paper was reportedly in circulation about 45 hours before the examination. It reached several students in Sikar, as well as those in Jaipur's outskirts and rural coaching hubs. The leak was allegedly carried out by a gang based in Haryana.
May 2: The matter came to light on May 2 at around 11 pm, when a student from Sikar, studying in Kerala, allegedly sent the paper to his father, who is a hostel owner.
May 3: The father, who runs a hostel in Sikar, filed a complaint with the Udyog Nagar police station and the National Testing Agency (NTA). He stated that a large number of students had received a suspicious "question bank/guess paper," making him a whistleblower.
May 6-7: Online chats and discussions related to the exam and answer key began surfacing. Students and coaching centres started referring to a "question bank" that reportedly had several similarities with the actual NEET paper.
May 7: The NTA said it received an email with a PDF alleging irregularities four days after the exam. According to the agency, the complaint originated from Rajasthan.
May 8: The NTA handed over the investigation to central agencies.
May 10: The Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (Rajasthan Special Operations Group) officially began its probe into the NEET paper leak case. By May 12, 13 people had been arrested from Sikar and nearby areas.
Probe trail as per investigators
Investigators traced the network from Sikar to Jaipur, where two individuals from Jamwaramgarh were allegedly found to have purchased the paper for Rs 15 lakh and supplied it further to Sikar-based contacts. This group is believed to have expanded the distribution network beyond Sikar.
The Jamwaramgarh duo reportedly claimed they sourced the material from Haryana, leading investigators further into the network.
In Haryana, authorities detained a medical student suspected of being part of an organised gang involved in the leak.
The probe was then extended further to Maharashtra, where a person in Nashik was found in possession of a handwritten copy of the paper. He also reportedly identified an accomplice in Pune, who is currently being traced.
Investigators believe these links indicate that the alleged leak network extended across multiple states, including Rajasthan, Haryana, and Maharashtra.
NTA's official position The NTA said the decision to cancel the exam was taken in the interest of students and to preserve the credibility of the national examination system. It acknowledged that the re-conduct would cause inconvenience but said continuing with the existing process would have caused "greater and more lasting damage" to institutional trust.
The agency also reiterated that all further communication, including revised exam dates and admit card schedules, will be issued only through official platforms, urging candidates to rely on verified sources and avoid unverified social media reports. Source:- NDTV 24 x 7

NEET UG 2026 paper leak: The chain of events that forced exam cancellation

Tamil Nadu politics latest news | The Tamil Nadu Congress has decided to ditch its long-time ally Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and support Thalapathy Vijay and his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in forming the government. The decision was taken at an urgent late-night meeting of the party's Political Affairs Committee, convened on Zoom by AICC in-charge for Tamil Nadu Affairs Girish Chodankar, where senior members backed the move, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.
This came after the grand old party claimed that Vijay sought their support for government formation and that the party leadership had asked the state unit to take a final call, keeping in view the state's sentiments. Top Congress leaders met at party chief Mallikarjun Kharge's residence on Tuesday evening, with Rahul Gandhi and Chodankar among those present, to discuss the post-election situation.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Congress general secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal said, "TVK President Thiru Vijay has requested the Indian National Congress for support to form a Government in Tamil Nadu." He added that the Congress is crystal clear that the mandate in Tamil Nadu is for "a secular government that is committed to protecting the Constitution in letter and spirit. The INC is determined not to have the BJP and its proxies run the Government of Tamil Nadu in any manner."
Vijay's TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, falling short of the halfway mark. The report from New Delhi said he needs the support of 10 MLAs to form a government with a simple majority. Congress won five seats, PMK four, CPI and CPI-M two each, DMK 59 and AIADMK 47. The BJP, DMDK and AMMK won one seat each, while the VCK won two. Congress fought the election in alliance with the DMK, while the BJP was allied with the AIADMK.
Not just this, NDA ally All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is also considering extending support to Vijay. AIADMK MLA-elect Leemarose Martin said that the party's general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami is in talks to support Vijay for a stable government.
Leemarose, wife of Santiago Martin, won from Lalgudi, while her son-in-law, Aadhav Arjuna of TVK, won from Villivakkam. The Chennai report said TVK, launched in 2024, secured 108 seats in its maiden Assembly poll and required the support of an additional 12 members, with talks underway with several parties, including the Congress.
With the Congress state unit now backing Vijay, and parallel claims of AIADMK talks, government formation efforts in Tamil Nadu have moved to the centre of the post-election developments.

Congress backs Vijay's TVK in Tamil Nadu, will AIADMK join course?

Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday took oath as Bihar’s 24th Chief Minister, becoming the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party to occupy the top post.
His swearing-in follows his election as leader of the BJP legislature party after the resignation of Nitish Kumar, in what was a decisive transfer of power.
Choudhary’s elevation caps a steady political rise from Deputy Chief Minister earlier this year to the Chief Minister's office, placing him at the centre of a major political realignment in the state with the BJP moving into a leadership role for the first time.
Saffron breakthrough in Bihar’s top job
Born on November 16, 1968, in Lakhanpur village in Munger district, Choudhary comes from a politically active family. His father, Shakuni Choudhary, was a six-time MLA and Member of Parliament, while his mother, Parvati Devi, represented the Tarapur constituency. He completed his early education in his hometown before pursuing higher studies at Madurai Kamaraj University, and began his political journey in 1990. In 1999, he served as Bihar’s Agriculture Minister during the Rabri Devi-led government.
Choudhary has been elected twice as an MLA from Parbatta (2000 and 2010), and also served as chief whip of the opposition in the Assembly. He later held the Urban Development and Housing portfolio from 2014.
His rise within the BJP accelerated after he joined the party, culminating in his appointment as Bihar BJP president in March 2023, succeeding Sanjay Jaiswal. The move was part of the party’s broader strategy to strengthen its outreach among OBC communities, particularly the Kushwaha/Koeri group, where Choudhary is seen as a key face.
In January 2024, he became leader of the BJP legislature party and was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, handling key portfolios including Finance, Health, Urban Development, and Panchayati Raj. His tenure saw a focus on administrative reforms, improvements in policing and traffic management, and efforts to boost transparency and investment through streamlined CSR initiatives.
Known for his combative political style, Choudhary has frequently taken an aggressive stance against rivals. His symbolic decision to wear a turban during the BJP’s split with JD(U)—pledging to remove it only after the party returned to power—reinforced his image as a determined political figure.
Nitish Kumar exits, power equation resets
Choudhary’s swearing-in follows the resignation of Nitish Kumar, bringing to a close yet another phase in the veteran leader’s long and influential political journey in Bihar. His exit not only ended the immediate tenure but also redrew the state’s political equations, paving the way for a clear shift in leadership dynamics. For years, the BJP had operated as a junior partner in Bihar’s सत्ता structure, backing Nitish Kumar-led governments across shifting alliances. Choudhary’s elevation marks a decisive break from that pattern, with the party now assuming direct control of the Chief Minister’s office for the first time.
The transition is a broader recalibration within the state’s political landscape: one where leadership, social outreach strategies, and governance priorities are expected to align more closely with the BJP’s organisational vision.

Samrat Choudhary sworn in as Bihar’s 24th chief minister, scripts BJP’s first at the helm

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck in the Molucca Sea off Indonesia's Ternate island early Thursday, killing at least one person.
The quake, which struck at 06:48 local time (22:48 GMT) at a depth of 35km, sparked tsunami warnings which have since been withdrawn.
A 70-year-old woman in North Sulawesi died after being crushed by building debris, and another person broke their leg after jumping off a building, Indonesia's national news agency Antara reported.
While the region experiences high levels of seismic activity, some residents told the BBC this was one of the strongest earthquakes they have felt in at least the past six years.
The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially warned that tsunami waves less than 0.3m (1 ft) "were possible" along the coasts of Guam, Japan, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Taiwan. The tsunami alert was lifted after two hours.
Journalist Isvara Safitri, who lives in central Manado, recalled how furniture in her room shook for several seconds.
"It was really strong... My head even felt dizzy," Safitri told BBC Indonesian.
Even the roads outside the house were shaking, she said, adding that the earthquake "feels like the strongest" she's experienced over the past six years.
Yayuk Oktiani, who lives in Bitung, a city on the north-eastern coast of Sulawesi, said she often experiences tremors, "but they're never as strong as this one".
Oktiani was at the market when "everything started shaking". Several stores experienced power outages and as the tremors got stronger, people fled, she told the BBC.
She headed straight for her child's school, which is located "very close" to the sea.
"The situation there was chaotic... The teachers immediately told parents to bring their children home, even though they had only just arrived," she told the BBC.
In Ternate, resident Budi Nurgianto said the walls in his house vibrated for what felt like more than a minute. He rushed outside, into a scene of panic.
"There were many people outside... I even saw some people leaving their house without having finished their shower," he told AFP news agency.
Manado and Bitung are located on the island of Sulawesi, while Ternate is a volcanic island in the North Maluku province.
The epicentre of the quake was roughly midway between Manado and Ternate.
At least two aftershocks, with magnitudes 5.5 and 5.2, followed the major quake, with authorities warning of more to come.
The national geological agency reported "damage to buildings and injuries" about an hour after the initial tremor, but did not provide further detail.
Footage from a search and rescue team in Manado shows residents and officials walking through the rubble at a sports complex, with some shouting "oh my God".
Large pieces of furniture were flung onto the ground, with some metallic structures bent out of shape.
A patient at Siloam Hospital in Manado recalled the frantic efforts to evacuate staff and patients.
"We were sitting there drinking tea... [Initially we] didn't realise it was an earthquake. And then we heard a child scream, 'Come down, hurry up,' " said Admini, 69.
Nurses and doctors quickly set up makeshift treatment areas, out in the open and inside vehicles.
"Everyone was huddled together outside," Admini said. "Some were in wheelchairs, others were helping each other."

A second vessel carrying liquified petroleum gas from the Persian Gulf reached India’s west coast early on Tuesday after safely transiting the troubled Strait of Hormuz, offering some relief amid growing shortages of the cooking fuel that 333 million Indian households rely on.
The state-owned, medium-range carrier, MT Nanda Devi, steamed into an offshore anchorage point with 46,500 tonnes of LPG around 2 am, where its crew were immediately offered health checks and refreshments. Almost immediately, the cargo was processed for onward transportation.
The cargo is enough to fill 3.3 million 14.2 kg cylinders of LPG. India imports 60-65% of its LPG requirement, although following the West Asian crisis, it has asked domestic refiners to make more LPG, and the petroleum ministry said on Tuesday that domestic production has increased by 38%. Daily bookings on Monday were around 7 million. A decision was taken to hold the vessel offshore near Vadinar instead of berthing it at Kandla port, its flagged destination, to cut down on turnaround time by transferring cargo directly to another ship, according to Deendayal port chairman Sushil Kumar Singh.
“Ship-to-ship transfer helps save time and is done as a routine practice also,” Singh said.
The cargo was loaded on MT BW BIRCH that sailed to Chennai, avoiding land transportation, a shipping directorate official said separately. MT Nanda Devi, chartered by the Indian Oil Corp, is one of the two LPG tankers --both owned by the Shipping Corporation of India --that was permitted by Iran to transit the Strait of Hormuz, the vital waterway for global trade through which about half of India’s crude and over three-fourths of LPG imports pass.
It loaded LPG on March 1 from Qatar’s Ras Laffan, a large facility that has been hit by Iran. Together, the two tankers hauled 92714 tonnes of gas supplies. On Monday, the first vessel, India-flagged Shivalik, reached the Mundra port in the west coast after clearing the hazardous strait following intense diplomatic efforts by the government for a safe passage to the tankers.
Both tankers used their transponders to signal that they were Indian government-owned vessels, the second official said, after being cleared to cross the narrow waterway, where Iran has imposed a blockade on maritime traffic, triggering a global energy crisis.
“I thank our government and the shipping ministry. I also thank the Indian navy for facilitating this voyage,” MT Nanda Devi’s chief officer Sanjay Prashar said. The seafarer said the Iranian navy cooperated with the ship with navigation help inside the Strait of Hormuz.
India is among the economies most vulnerable to the West Asia crisis as it imports most of its crude and gas supplies from Gulf nations. An LPG shortage has hit industrial consumers and restaurants as the government has prioritised gas distribution for domestic users to shield households. “Major ports are prioritising berthing for LPG vessels to ensure timely discharge of cargo and continuity in energy supply,” shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, after interacting with the crew of Shivalik and Nanda Devi. “Your efforts ensured the safe passage of critical LPG cargo,” a statement quoted the minister as saying.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the manufacturer of the Tejas fighter jet, has dismissed reports claiming the aircraft crashed, clarifying that the incident was a minor technical issue that occurred on the ground. According to HAL, the LCA Tejas boasts one of the strongest safety records among modern fighter aircraft worldwide.
“HAL acknowledges the recent media reports on the LCA Tejas incident and wishes to provide factual clarification. There has been no reported crash of the LCA Tejas. The event in question was a minor technical incident on ground,” HAL said in its statement shared on X.
Hal Clarification on the third crash

“As a standard operating procedure, the issue is being analysed in depth and HAL is working closely with the Indian Air Force (IAF) for a speedy resolution,” the statement added.
Reports by Press Trust of India (PTI) and several other outlets stated that a Tejas light combat aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) suffered significant damage to its airframe after overshooting the runway at a frontline airbase earlier this month. However, the reports did not disclose the location of the incident.
The report stated that the aircraft was heading back to base after completing a training sortie when it reportedly experienced a suspected brake failure, causing it to overshoot the runway on February 7. As a result, the jet sustained considerable structural damage.
The episode, which Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has termed a minor technical issue on the ground, is the third accident involving a Tejas aircraft since its induction in 2015. The first crash was reported near Jaisalmer in March 2024. The second occurred in November 2025 during an aerial display at the Dubai Airshow, where the pilot lost his life.
The Tejas fighter was designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency and is manufactured by HAL.
Tejas is a single-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft capable of operating in high-threat air environments and is designed to undertake air defence, maritime reconnaissance and strike roles. The Indian Air Force currently has 30 Tejas jets in its fleet.

A Delhi court on Friday extended the judicial custody of Faridabad-based Al Falah University chairman Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui for 14 days, and the matter will come up for the next hearing on March 27.

The court also issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a plea filed by Siddiqui. He had moved an application seeking documents related to the charge sheet and requested that the material be provided to him.

Siddiqui was arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch on January 27 in connection with two FIRs registered against him. He has been accused of fraud and other related offences based on a complaint filed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The court on January 31 had sent him to 14 days of judicial custody.

According to a police official, the accreditation of Al Falah University lapsed in 2018.

Investigators claim that despite the accreditation period ending in 2018, the university continued to project itself as UGC-recognised on its website and other promotional material, allegedly to lure students into enrolling.

The development came to light during the ongoing probe against the institution and its chairman.

The university came under the scanner of security agencies after three doctors associated with its medical institute were named as suspects in the blast near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on November 10.

The suspects were alleged to be part of a terror module involved in the blast. The names included Umar Nabi, who was allegedly driving the car that exploded near the Red Fort.

Siddiqui was first taken into four-day police custody from January 27 for questioning regarding the university’s accreditation claims and courses offered by the institution, including B.Ed and engineering programmes. The action by the Crime Branch followed earlier proceedings by the Enforcement Directorate. The ED had arrested Siddiqui in November last year in a money laundering case linked to the institution.

The ED had earlier told a Delhi court that the university generated alleged proceeds of crime worth Rs 45 crore by dishonestly inducing students to enrol “using false claims”.

In January, the agency had attached immovable properties worth Rs 139.97 crore linked to the university while filing a charge sheet in the case.

Investigators had further alleged that institutional funds were layered through family-controlled entities and that foreign remittances were made in favour of Siddiqui’s family members.

Maha Kumbh 2025 ends today: Maha Shivratri rush at Sangam for final ‘snan’; police on alert in Prayagraj | 10 points

Maha Shivratri marked the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 on February 26, with devotees flocking to Triveni Sangam for the final holy dip.

Maha Shivratri at Maha Kumbh 2025: The final day of the grand Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 began on Wednesday, February 26, with devotees rushing to the Triveni Sangam in the wee hours for a holy dip, the last special 'snan', on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
With this, the six-week-long Mela, the world's largest spiritual gathering being held at Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, will conclude.
Maha Shivratri, as is, is a key occasion for Hindus as it commemorates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. However, it holds a special place in the Maha Kumbh context. As per Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva's crucial role in the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), led to the emergence of Amrit Kumbh (the pitcher of nectar), which is the key essence of the Kumbh Mela.
Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, witnessed six special ‘snan’, including three 'Amrit Snan' days. The first one being on Paush Purnima on January 13, Makar Sankranti on January 14, Mauni Amavasya on January 29, Basant Panchami on February 3, Maghi Purnima on February 12 and finally, Maha Shivratri on February 26.

In the wee hours of Wednesday, , devotees were seen rushing towards the Triveni Sangam, confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, for a final 'snan' of the Maha Kumbh Mela on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.

In anticipation of higher footfall of devotees for the last sacred bath, the entire Kumbh Mela area has been turned into a 'no vehicle zone'. In addition, DIG (Kumbh) Vaibhav Krishna told news agency PTI that "no VIP treatment" will be accorded to any person on Wednesday.

The Uttar Pradesh government also issued an extensive advisory for devotees, advising them to take dips at the ghats closest to them. As per the advisory, those coming from the Uttar Jhunsi route should go to Harishchandra Ghat and Old GT Ghat, and those from Dakshini Jhunsi should use Arail Ghat. Devotees entering the Mela from the Pande area have been suggested to take a 'snan' at Bharadwaj Ghat, Nagavasuki Ghat, Mori Ghat, Kali Ghat, Ram Ghat, and Hanuman Ghat.

DIG (Kumbh) Vaibhav Krishna said elaborate security and management arrangements had been made in Mela for Maha Shivratri, saying that the administration was "prepared to handle a two-pronged situation". He said that the Mela expected the influx of devotees to be higher than that of Tuesday (1.33 crore).

According to officials, as many as 37,000 police personnel and 14,000 home guards have been deployed at Maha Kumbh for security arrangements. Meanwhile, 2,750 AI-based CCTV cameras, three Jal Police stations, 18 Jal Police control rooms, and 50 watch towers are in place to help with managing the safety and security of devotees. "We are also monitoring social media 24x7 to check any spread of misinformation regarding the Maha Kumbh," said DIG Vaibhav Krishna.

The Indian Railways also made special arrangements for Maha Shivratri, with a plan to run over 350 additional trains from Prayagraj to facilitate devotees' return after the final 'Amrit snan' of the Kumbh Mela. Previously, during Mauni Amavasya, more than 360 special trains were deployed to transport over 20 lakh passengers to their destinations safely. A similar plan has been implemented for Maha Shivratri.

In view of the recent stampede incidents, North Central Railway, North Eastern Railway, and Northern Railways have been directed to remain on high alert. NER CPRO Pankaj Kumar Singh earlier said that 60 trains, including regular ring rail, long distance and special Mela trains, were operated until 4 pm on Tuesday. Additionally, 25 more special trains were also running on Maha Shivratri. Security has also been tightened at key stations, with 850 RPF personnel and 290 commercial staff at Jhunsi station, Prayagraj Rambagh has 500 RPF personnel and 250 commercial staff on duty.

Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw personally monitored the situation, with Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board Satish Kumar, who is overseeing the on-ground operations. General managers from three separate railway zones are in coordination to manage the surge in passengers.

Since there have been a fair amount of fire incidents at the Maha Kumbh Mela, even though none have resulted in casualties so far, adequate fire-fighting arrangements have also been made. Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma, as cited by PTI, said, “As many as 50 fire stations and 20 fire posts are on standby to meet any contingency requirements.”

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had on Tuesday itself extended greetings to the people of the state as well others from across the world for the 'Amrit snan' at the Maha Kumbh. He said that Maha Shivratri inspires people to remain committed to the welfare of society. "Lord Mahadev, the God of Gods, is universally revered among the masses. Festivals and celebrations strengthen our traditions and national unity. The Jyotirlingas across India stand as symbols of national integration," Adityanath added.

Delhi new CM announcement

RPF trying to clear overbridge when platform for Kumbh Special changed this led to a stampede Officer’s report

According to the RPF officer’s report, after the departure of Train Number 12560 Shiv Ganga Express from Platform Number 12, suddenly there was a crowd of passengers in the station, because of which FOBs 2 and 3 got choked.

What set off the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night killing 18 people was an announcement about a change in the departure platform of a Kumbh Special train to Prayagraj, according to a report prepared by an inspector-rank officer of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The inspector’s report will be taken as an input by the RPF which is preparing a final report to be submitted to the two-member high level committee set up by the Ministry of Railways.

“…at around 8.45 pm, an announcement was made that Kumbh Special going to Prayagraj would depart from Platform Number 12, but after some time, another announcement was made that the Kumbh Special would leave from Platform Number 16, due to which a stampede situation arose among passengers,” the officer is learnt to have written in the report submitted on February 16 to his Delhi Zone seniors.
Upon hearing the announcement, passengers started trying to climb the stairs from Platforms 12-13 and 14-15 via foot-over bridges (FOBs) 2 and 3; and passengers of Magadh Express, Uttar Sampark Kranti and Prayagraj Express were climbing down the stairs. In the midst of pushing and shoving, some passengers slipped, fell on the stairs and got injured; and other passengers started walking over them,” the report said.
When contacted, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railways, said multiple departments have been asked to send reports, RPF being one of them. “After receiving reports from all, the high-level committee set up by the ministry will cross-question them and then come to a final conclusion,” he said.
According to the RPF officer’s report, after the departure of Train Number 12560 Shiv Ganga Express from Platform Number 12, suddenly there was a crowd of passengers in the station, because of which FOBs 2 and 3 got choked. “There was a jam-like situation on platforms 12-13, 14-15 and 16 as well,” it said. “After assessing the crowd from FOB2, ASC/ NDLS (Assistant Security Commissioner, New Delhi Railway Station) asked the station director not to sell more tickets and advised caution, fearing more crowds,” a senior officer said, citing the letter.
Further, the inspector asked all on-duty and off-duty staff to immediately reach the three platforms and FOBs. “The station director was asked to order the special train to run immediately when it gets full…,” the letter said. Around this time when the personnel were trying to clear the crowd, the announcement about a change in the departure platform of the Kumbh special train was made.
Explaining the incident, Northern Railways CPRO Upadhyay, said, “Prima facie, it appears that Prayagraj Express was scheduled to arrive at Platform Number 14. Passengers who regularly travel to Prayagraj (reserved passengers) by this train, in addition to other passengers also wanting to travel by this train, led to a massive crowd on the platform, including at the FOB. To manage this, we immediately arranged for another train on-demand for Prayagraj, which was announced to arrive at Platform Number 12. The moment the passengers waiting at Platform Number 14 heard the announcement, they suddenly started moving up the staircase and the FOB. Since the number of people was too large, the FOB was blocked and during this time, a stampede-like situation occurred at the staircase.

Delhi NCR earthquake live updates: Delhi NCR experienced earthquake tremors on Monday morning, with the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reporting a magnitude of 4.0. The earthquake occurred in New Delhi at a depth of five kilometres, according to NCS. The tremors were recorded at 5.36 am, as per the agency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X, saying that tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas, and that the authorities are staying alert for any aftershocks. “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. I urge everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, remaining alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation,” he said.
Many users on micro-blogging platform X shared their reactions, including political leaders from both BJP and Congress, who described the tremors as “strong.”
Delhi Police also posted on X, sharing an emergency contact for assistance. “We hope you all are safe, Delhi! For any emergency help #Dial112. #Earthquake,” the post read.
The epicentre was located near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, an official told PTI.
The area, which has a nearby lake, has experienced smaller, low-magnitude quakes every two to three years. In 2015, it recorded a 3.3 magnitude earthquake, the official said.
A loud sound was also heard when the earthquake struck, he added.
The strong tremors prompted residents of several high-rise buildings in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad to rush outside.
A woman in her 50s, who was on a morning walk in E Block of Noida Sector 20, said, “'Hum log bahar park me walk kar rahe the toh pata nahin chala. Lekin kafi tej tha. Log bahar aa gaye. (We were walking in the park, so we didn't feel it strongly. But it was quite strong. People came rushing out).'”

The intense tremors triggered panic, prompting people to rush out of their homes.
Anil Kumar, a resident of Sita Ram Bazar, told PTI that he had never experienced such strong tremors before.
Dr OP Mishra, director for the national centre for seismology, told news agency ANI that there is nothing to worry about the magnitude 4 earthquake that hit Delhi NCR on Monday.
He said that after the earthquake, "the aftershock will be less by 1.2 magnitude, it is natural as it will heal it

An earthquake jolted the people of Delhi and its surrounding areas up from their sleep on Monday morning. The earthquake was of a magnitude 4 on the Richter scale. Many people, however, claimed they had never felt such a strong jolt.
Srijan Pal Singh, the former advisor to the 11th President of India and founder of Kalam Centre and Homi lab, explained the phenomenon on X.
He said that the residents felt "bigger tremors than ever before" because the epicenter was in Delhi itself. “This is how quakes feel at the epicenter," he said.

A stampede occurred late Saturday night at crowded New Delhi Railway Station as a large crowd rushed to catch a train to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh.
Eyewitnesses to the stampede at New Delhi railway station described the horrifying scene that unfolded on Sunday, saying people were “pushing and scrambling” for space amid cries for help.

Speaking to news agency PTI aboard the Magadh Express, which arrived from New Delhi to Patna, eyewitness Prabhash Kumar Raman recalled the chaos.
"Massive crowd at the platform led to chaos, ultimately resulting in the tragic stampede. There was no cooperation from the administration. There was not even a single policeman when the incident took place. People were pushing and scrambling for space amid cries for help," he told PTI.

One victim shared the tragic news that his mother had died in the stampede. "We were travelling to our home in Chhapra, Bihar, in a group, but my mother died in the chaos. People were pushing each other," he said.
He added, “The doctor has confirmed to us that my mother has died.” Another family member of a deceased woman collapsed in grief.
The stampede occurred around 9.55 pm, prompting an emergency response from authorities. According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg, authorities dispatched rescue teams and four fire tenders to the scene.
Staircases on platforms 14, 15 were blocked
Hashibur Rehman, another passenger, claimed that the situation at New Delhi railway station worsened due to staircases on platforms 14 and 15 being blocked.

“Initially, some staircases of platforms were closed to manage the crowd. However, due to delays, more passengers were attempting to take the staircases. At the last moment, the closed staircases were opened, which caused congestion and the crowd swelled,” he said.
People were pushing one another to get on the train or to take the staircase. I saw at least 10-12 bodies lying on the platform... it was horrific,” he added.
He described the crowd as something never seen before.
"I must say that there was nobody from the side of the local administration who was present at the spot... officials arrived almost an hour after the incident," Rehman claimed.

Delhi Police to scan CCTV footage

Delhi police have launched an investigation into the stampede incident at New Delhi Railway Station, planning to review CCTV footage to understand what caused the chaos. The stampede followed a surge of passengers waiting to board trains to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh, particularly on platforms 14 and 15.
Among the deceased, 14 were women, and five were minors, two of whom were under 10. Nearly 15 people were injured and are currently receiving treatment. Sources, according to PTI, suggest that a mistaken announcement about a platform change may have led to confusion, triggering the stampede.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the deaths in a post on X. “Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede,” he said.
The deputy commissioner of police (railway) said that platform number 14 was already overcrowded when the Prayagraj Express was waiting for departure. The officer explained that delays in the Swatantra Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express meant passengers from these trains were also on platforms 12, 13, and 14.
"As per CMI, every hour 1,500 general tickets were sold by railways, causing the station to become overcrowded and uncontrollable. The stampede occurred at platform no. 14 and near the escalator by platform no. 16," the DCP said.
Northern Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Himanshu Upadhyay initially said that passengers pushing each other caused injuries, and those affected were taken to hospitals for first aid.
Delhi LG VK Saxena also expressed his grief in a post on X but later edited it to remove mentions of the casualties. In his original post, Saxena described the incident as "unfortunate and tragic," referring to the "loss of lives and injuries" due to "disorder and stampede" at the station. "My deepest condolences to the families of victims of this tragedy," he wrote.
However, after about 15 minutes, Saxena edited his post to remove the reference to deaths without offering an explanation.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed a "mega partnership" between the US and India, as he and US leader Donald Trump wrapped up a meeting in which they announced a deal for Delhi to import more US oil and gas in an effort to shrink the trade deficit between both countries.
Modi's two-day visit comes as Trump recently ordered that all the US' trading partners - including India - should face sweeping reciprocal tariffs.
And while both men praised each other's leadership, Trump criticised India for having some of the highest trade tariffs in the world, calling them a "big problem".
The Indian leader, seeking to soften impending trade barriers, said he was open to reducing tariffs on US goods, repatriating undocumented Indian nationals and buying military fighter jets from the US.
At a joint news conference, Modi made several references to Trump's "make America great again" slogan, including his own spin to it: "It's Make India Great Again - Miga," Modi said.
"Maga plus Miga...[is a] Mega partnership for prosperity".
Trump also added that India would be "purchasing a lot of our oil and gas" in an effort to close the trade deficit between both countries.
"They need it. And we have it," Trump said.
With India already being reliant on imported oil, which it sources from multiple countries, the energy deal with the US "presents a relatively low hanging fruit for both parties", Radhika Rao, a senior economist at Singapore's DBS bank told the BBC.
"The US is the largest export market for India's goods and services, which underscores the administration's willingness to pre-emptively smoothen trade relations and offer concessions to narrow the bilateral trade deficit that the US runs with India," she said.
However, "India's challenge will be to balance its own trade deficit because US oil and gas might be more expensive due to a stronger dollar," Amitendu Palit, senior research fellow at the National University of Singapore's Institute of South Asian Studies said.
"Reciprocal tariffs are likely to follow on India too at some stage. Hopefully for India, they won't turn out to be larger than expected," said Dr Palit.

Trump also added that the US would increase sales of military hardware to India by millions of dollars, eventually supplying Delhi with F-35 fighter jets.
The two also spoke about immigration - another pain point in bilateral relations - with Trump announcing that the US would extradite a man who allegedly plotted 2008 Mumbai terror attack to "face justice in India".
Modi thanked Trump for allowing the extradition and vowed to accept repatriations of Indian nationals illegally living in the US.
Last week, US deported on a military plane 104 Indians accused of being illegal immigrants, with a video showing deportees in shackles. A second flight is expected to land in India on Saturday.
Indians are one of the largest populations of unauthorised immigrants in the US. They also hold the majority of H-1B visas - a programme that Trump had temporarily banned during his first term and is now coming under fresh scrutiny.

Shortly before his meeting with Modi, Trump had ordered his advisers to calculate broad new tariffs on US trading partners around the globe, warning they could start coming into effect by 1 April.
He acknowledged the risks of his tariff policy but argued the policy would boost American manufacturing and the country would be "flooded with jobs".
Trump told reporters that "our allies are worse than our enemies", when it comes to import taxes.
"We had a very unfair system to us," the Republican president said before meeting Modi. "Everybody took advantage of the United States."
The White House also issued a news release that fired a trade shot across the bows of India and other countries.
The document noted that the average US tariff on agricultural goods was 5% for countries to which Washington had granted most favoured nation (MFN) status.
"But India's average applied MFN tariff is 39%," the White House fact sheet said.
"India also charges a 100% tariff on US motorcycles, while we only charge a 2.4% tariff on Indian motorcycles."
Trump has already placed an additional 10% tariff on imports from China, citing its production of fentanyl, a deadly opioid that has stoked a US overdose epidemic.
He has also readied tariffs on Canada and Mexico, America's two largest trading partners, that could take effect in March after being suspended for 30 days.
Earlier this week, he removed exemptions from his 2018 steel and aluminium tariffs.
