Prayagraj Mahakumbh Stampede News Live Updates: After a stampede-like incident occurred at the Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said the situation is under control and some devotees have suffered serious injuries. Adityanath said about eight to ten crore people are present for ‘Amrit Snan’ today at the spot and has urged people to remain cautious. Several are feared injured and have been taken to hospital.

The two leaders have spoken four times since the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, as authorities scrambled to manage the large crowds at Sangam. The Opposition parties have been hitting out at the BJP-led UP government and Centre, accusing them of “mismanagement” and “VIP culture”.
What is the current situation? Heavy security has been deployed at the Sangam as police paved way for akharas to take second ‘Amrit Snan’ today. “People are bathing at all the ghats here peacefully… In the morning, there was pressure and a huge crowd. Many Akharas told us to regulate the crowd and that they would come out for the snan later. Now that the crowd is under control, our preparations for the Akharas and saints are in place,” Vaibhav Krishna, DIG Mahakumbh told news agency ANI.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the stampede-like situation at the Sangam in Prayagraj. In a post on X, Banerjee wrote, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh, which has claimed at least 15 innocent lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved pilgrim families. My learning from our Gangasagar Mela is that planning and care must be maximal in matters relating to pilgrims’ lives in vast assemblies of people. Prayers for the departed souls.
